A configuração da personagem feminina em 'A Rainha do Ignoto', de Emília Freitas, e em 'El Pais de las mujeres', de Gioconda Belli

Abstract

In the 19th century, society conceived of artistic activity as a specifically masculine quality, so women should conform to their images molded by men. However, it is known that some women managed to overcome this imposition and not only produced literary texts but dealt with women's experiences from their perspectives. Through literary creation, they were able to revise and reconstruct the configuration of female characters, albeit in a disguised manner. This is the case of Emilia Freitas (1855-1908) in her fantastic-marvelous work A Rainha do Ignoto (1899). In it, the writer subverts the conception of women in the nineteenth century narrative in Brazil through the supernatural resource. Just as the Brazilian writer, Gioconda Belli reviews the configuration of the female character in the 21st century. In El pais de las mujeres (2010), the writer reviews the female stereotype of mother, wife, and caregiver as a way to break the negatively constructed paradigm surrounding these aspects. These writers were fundamental for the transformation of female-authored literature, given that the awareness of role has changed the figuration of the female character in fiction.
