Em busca de si: construção identitária no poema "Marabá", de Gonçalves Dias

This paper aims to analyze the poem Marabá, by the Brazilian romantic writer Gonçalves Dias. In this poem, the persona (tha native Marabá) experiences a conflict in her community for being rejected by her peers because of her mixed origin: daughter of native indian and european. In order to understand this identity mismatch in the poem, this analysis approaches some concepts such as discursive heterogeneity (BRANDÃO, 2004), frontier (AUGÉ, 2010), subject (TOURAINE, 2004), identity (HALL, 2001), care of the self (FOUCALT, 2006) and citizenship (MANZINI-COVRE, 2007). conclude the purposes of this reflection. Hence it aims to detail the anguish of a persona who has been dismissed from her condition of being-in-the-world, since she is not recognized for her self-image. Therefore, it point a out how such elements – discursive heterogeneity, frontier, subject, identity and citizenship – can influence Marabá’s identity construction.
