Abstract

This article investigates two works that draw upon personal and institutional archives to recount the stories of two feminicides. The first is the memoir Liliana's Invincible Summer: A Sister's Search for Justice, by Mexican author Cristina Rivera Garza, in which she reconstructs the life and death of her sister Liliana, murdered by an ex-boyfriend in 1990. The second is the poetry collection Jane: A Murder by American author Maggie Nelson, who explores the limits of the poetic form while telling the story of the 1960s murder of her aunt Jane. By blending poetic language with archival research, ? such as the victims' diaries and news reports on the cases ? these authors challenge the boundaries between memoir and fiction, echoing towards the present the voices of Liliana and Jane; both victims of feminicide at a time when there was not yet adequate language to discuss this specific type of violence.
